West Hollywood City Council Votes to Extend Home Sharing Ordinance for Additional Two Years
On Tuesday, January 21st, the West Hollywood City Council voted to extend the City’s home sharing ordinance for an additional two years. The Home Sharing ordinance was originally adopted in 2018, and will now likely expire on March 3, 2022. As a procedural matter, the ordinance must be passed a second time in order to be adopted.
Under the ordinance, a licensee may rent or offer for rent a room or part of a room in a primary residence for a period of 30 days or less. A licensee must reside in the residence during the duration of the guest’s stay. Primary residence is defined as “any residential unit that the owner or leaseholder resides in for at least 270 days per year.” The ordinance establishes an application process for obtaining the required license, and contains home sharing prohibitions, advertising and operating requirements, recordkeeping and tax remittance, and provisions for related violations and penalties.
See attached Home Sharing Ordinance for further details.
