Supplier Directory: Don't be Invisible. How to Get Found

Your directory listing is only as useful as the words inside it. Here's how to make sure the right members find you — every time they search.

The Problem: The Search Bar Only Finds What You've Written

The AAGLA directory search engine is literal. It matches the words a member types against the words on your profile — nothing more.

If a property manager searches for "eviction attorney" and your profile only says "Legal Solutions LLC," you simply won't appear in their results.

The Search Gap: The space between what your company is called and what a property manager types when they have a problem. Closing that gap is the entire goal of profile optimization.

The good news? It takes less than 15 minutes to fix — and once you do, you're discoverable for every search going forward.

Before & After: What an Optimized Profile Looks Like

Here's the same vendor — before and after a quick profile update. Notice how the optimized version surfaces specific services, problems solved, and locations served.

Before — not searchable

After — fully optimized

Valley Restoration Group

Valley Restoration Group provides professional water damage restoration and mold remediation for apartment complexes and multi-family housing. We specialize in flood cleanup, mold removal, and fire damage repair. Serving Los Angeles, Ventura, and San Bernardino counties.

Tip: the optimized version closes the gap between 'Mitigation Specialist' and what a member actually types: 'mold removal.'

How to Optimize Your Profile in 4 Steps

1

Identify your search gap

Write down what you call yourself — then write down every word a property manager might type when they have the problem you solve. Those are your keywords.

You say: "Mitigation Specialist"     →     They search: "mold removal" or "water damage"

2

Know where to plant your keywords

The directory searches three key fields. Make sure your keywords appear in all of them:

Company aliases — Add shorter names, trade names, or previous names your clients might search.

Professional title — Instead of "Owner," try "Owner & Lead Plumber" or "Principal Attorney – Evictions."

Profile bio — Your most powerful field. List every service, every problem you solve, and every city or county you serve.

3

Write your bio using this formula

Skip the company history. Use this structure to pack in every searchable keyword naturally:

[Company Name] provides professional [primary service] for multi-family housing and apartment complexes. We specialize in [keyword 1], [keyword 2], and [keyword 3]. Whether you need a [alternative search term] or help with [specific problem you fix], our team serves [counties / cities].

Avoid this: Don't keyword-stuff with a bare list like 'plumbing, HVAC, roofing.' Weave keywords into natural sentences using the formula above.

4

Run the pre-save checklist

Before you click "Save," confirm you've covered these four areas:

  • Plurals & variations — include both "Plumber" and "Plumbing," "Roof" and "Roofing."
  • Services & solutions — list what you fix, not just your tools: "Leaky faucets," "emergency HVAC," "unit turn painting."
  • Location — name the cities and counties you serve. Members often search by area.
  • Seasonal updates — revisit your profile when you add services or expand to new areas.
