Santa Monica Updates Allowable Rent Increase Effective September 1st
The Santa Monica Rent Control Board updated the allowable annual increase for rent controlled units in the City to a 1.7% increase up to a maximum or “cap” of just $39.00 per month. This change is effective on September 1, 2021.
Under the City’s rent control law, the allowed general adjustment is based on 75% of the change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Los Angeles area for the 12-month period between March of the previous year and March of the current year which was 2.2% for the period, and 75% of that is 1.65% and rounded up to 1.7%.
The Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles has added an updated form for this allowable rent increase in Santa Monica to our Rental Forms Library which can be downloaded here: H.17 – 2021-22 Santa Monica Notice of Change in Terms of Tenancy
