L.A. County’s Department of Consumer and Business Affairs Opens 2nd Application Round for County’s Rent Relief Program
Applications to Reopen May 20th for a Limited Time Only
The Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA) and The Center by Lendistry have announced the opening of a second round of the Los Angeles County Rent Relief Program (LARRP). Applications are to open on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 9:00 A.M. Pacific Time and will close on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 4:59 P.M, Pacific Time. Interested applicants should review eligibility requirements, register to receive a link to the application when it opens, and access the application directly when it is available by visiting www.lacountyrentrelief.com.
Those who are interested in applying for the second round of funding must wait until the application period re-opens on May 20th. Right now and until the applications for this second round open, visitors to the County’s website will receive the following message: “Applications for this Program are no longer being accepted. Both Landlords and Tenants are welcome to submit their information in case additional resources for rental debt assistance become available.”
In order to better serve applicants, the County has authorized various community partners to provide free webinars and technical assistance in multiple languages. Support services will be available daily from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Pacific Time starting at the time of the application opening date. The County has urged all applicants from the first round of funding to finalize any incomplete tasks and, if necessary, to contact the Rent Relief Customer Call Center at (877) 849-0770 for further assistance, which the County has indicated will help expedite processing and aid distribution.
DCBA will continue to use a prioritized review process, focusing on applications that serve vulnerable tenants and properties in areas of highest need, as identified by the L.A. County Equity Explorer Tool. After the portal opens on May 20th, applicants are encouraged by the County to apply early; however, submission of a completed application does not guarantee funding.
Originally launched December 12, 2023, LARRP’s funding will be providing over $68 million in financial support to qualified landlords. Eligible landlords have been able to apply for up to $30,000 per rental unit, covering past due rent and eligible expenses since April 1, 2022. The first round of the LARRP provided funding based upon priority under the following criteria:
- The rental property was located in a high or highest-need area.
- The landlord or tenant had a household income at or below 80% of L.A. County’s Area Median Income (AMI).
- The landlord fully satisfied the tenant's rental debt for the eligible period.
- The landlord owned no more than four rental units.
Other eligibility requirements included: (i) Proof of identity; (ii) Proof of income; (iii) Proof of ownership; (iv) Proof of tenancy of the unit applied for; (v) Proof of rent owed; and (vi) Documentation of eligible expenses.
