We Mourn the Passing of Bob Sullivan

(December 1, 1937 - August 27, 2024)

The Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles is saddened to learn of the passing of former Board President and long-time member of its Board of Directors, Robert J. (“Bob”) Sullivan, who passed away peacefully in his Santa Monica home on August 27, 2024. Sullivan’s son-in-law, William Dawson, is also a past AAGLA president, and a current member of its Board of Directors.

Sullivan moved from Chicago to the Pacific Palisades at the age of 13. After serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he settled in Santa Monica with his wife of 55 years, Kathleen, and dedicated his life to service of the community he loved. In 1962, he co-founded property management and realty firm Sullivan-Dituri Co., which continues to serve the Westside under the management of his son-in-law, William. Sullivan became active in the real estate industry and joined AAGLA’s Board of Directors where he served for over 40 years, including his presidency in 1985. In 2009, Sullivan was recognized as an AAGLA Honorary Director for Life in recognition of his contributions.

Throughout his career, Sullivan was very active in promoting the housing industry and fair trade practices. He was integral in the groundbreaking passing of the Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act in the 1990’s and staunchly advocated for “mom and pop” housing providers throughout his career. In addition to his tenure in AAGLA, Sullivan was past President of the Santa Monica Board of Realtors, a member of the Rotary Club of Santa Monica for 48 years, a member of both the Santa Monica Planning Commission and Architectural Review Board, and also served as President of the Boys Club of Santa Monica.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Monica to honor Bob Sullivan. Contributions can be made at the following link: https://www.smbgc.org/give-today/.
