Los Angeles County Lead-Free Homes L.A. Program Offers Owners Up to $25,000

The Lead-Free Homes L.A. Program is a grant program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (H.U.D.) that offers owners of multifamily properties, with 5 units or more units, up to $25,000 per unit – that includes $20,000 for lead remediation and $5,000 for health and safety improvements. The program is being managed locally by the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA), and to participate properties must meet the following criteria:

  • Constructed prior to 1978.
  • Contain five (5) or more rental units.
  • Have a child under six (6) years frequently visiting or living at the property..
  • Have qualified, low-income renters (eligibility determined by LACDA)
  • Be located within the following target areas: City Terrace, East Los Angeles, Commerce, Vernon, Walnut Park, Maywood, Bell Gardens, Bell, Huntington Park, Cudahy, Southgate, Lynwood, Willowbrook, or Compton. See the map of the target area below.
  • Not be sold for three (3) years after remediation (LACDA will provide further guidance to property owners on this matter).

Property owners interested in participating may apply to Impact Assessment, the outreach and enrollment partner, who will collaborate with the tenants to obtain the necessary documents.
