Los Angeles Area Property Owners Take to Streets to Protest Unjust Regulation

Industry News,

Los Angeles Area rental property owners, including many of whom are members of the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles, protested on the streets of downtown Los Angeles against unfair regulations such as the current plethora of eviction moratoria and rent increase freezes, and advocated for small rental property owners. The protest, organized by Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles member, Nancy Mauer, and Yong Lee Lee took place on Saturday, August 15, 2020 outside the Los Angeles County Assessor’s office at 500 West Temple Street. Both Ms. Mauer and Ms. Lee consider themselves to be “mom and pop” landlords.

The protest focused on two primary issues: The statewide eviction ban, and landlords’ mounting mortgage payments for which protestors complained that the government has provided absolutely no relief. The protest was covered by media outlets such as Real Deal Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley Business Journal.

Although organized by a member of the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles and attended by some of its members, the protest was entirely grass roots and not a sanctioned event of the Association, although like any news event impacting rental housing providers, the Association did notify its members through its various outlets that the protest would be occurring.
