L.A. County: Wildfire Hardship Declaration Form Now Available
Los Angeles County has recently released a hardship declaration form that tenants may use when declaring a hardship due to impacts of the wildfires in order to defer rent payments for up to 18 months.
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted 4-to-0 (Supervisor Barger abstaining) to pass a resolution creating a countywide eviction moratorium (a/k/a, eviction defense) for non-payment of rent by individuals self-certifying that they have been financially impacted by the recent wildfires by at least a 10% reduction in their income.
This eviction moratorium covers all 88 cities within Los Angeles County as well as the unincorporated areas of the County. It also covers ALL rental housing providers, including single-family houses, multifamily properties of all ages, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), junior accessory dwelling units (JADUs) and condominiums. The eviction moratorium will last 6 months and renters are then given an additional 18 months to pay any back rent that is owed for a total rent deferment of up to 18 months.
