Glendale City Council to Finalize Agreement/Ordinance Establishing Solid Waste Collection Franchise

Industry News,

At the July 27, 2021 Glendale City Council meeting, the City will consider adoption of an ordinance establishing an exclusive franchise system for solid waste collection services of commercial establishments and multi-family buildings with 5 or more units (Agenda, Items 7a and 8). AAGLA has been actively advocating on this issue for many years with the City. AAGLA has reviewed the proposed agreement and provided comments to City staff and City Councilmembers. While AAGLA does not support a monopolistic system as created by this proposed ordinance, it does believe that the agreement includes many protections to ensure proper service and equitable rates for the new recycling services being provided under it.
