AAGLA currently offers several important Rental Housing Industry Certificate Training Courses throughout the year.  Below are the current courses offered along with their descriptions:

AVERT: Active Violence Emergency Response Training

The FBI defines an active shooter as one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area. According to the FBI, in 2022, 50 shootings were designated as "active shooter incidents"(read the findings here).  The news today is filled with stories of workplace violence, smash-and-grab break-ins, and other violent situations.  Don’t be a victim of violent crime.  Learn how you can protect yourself and avoid being a victim of violent crime. Don’t let yourself or your business become a violent crime statistic.

The Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles knows the importance of workplace and personal safety.  Living in an urban environment means we are always at risk of violent crime and must know when and how to react.  That’s why we have partnered with the Health and Safety Institute to bring you the AVERT certification course to help prepare you if an act of violence occurs.  With AVERT – Active Violence Emergency Response Training - you’ll learn how to recognize the signs of danger, react appropriately, and make rapid survival decisions.  AVERT goes beyond active shooter response training by teaching how to control life-threatening bleeding.  When violence occurs, seconds count, and you can’t always wait for EMS to arrive.  This training enables you to become an immediate responder by giving you the tools to prepare for potential violence and react quickly in life-threatening situations.  Upon completing the AVERT training session, you and your community will be able to:

  • Recognize warning signs using situational awareness

  • Decide whether to Escape, Evade or Attack

  • Apply critical bleeding control techniques

  • Respond quickly and confidently in an emergency

  • Develop an Emergency Action Plan (EAP)

Instructors are AVERT Certified, Law Enforcement, EMS, and Public Safety Experts.  The instructor-led, in-person session lasts approximately three hours and includes dynamic hands-on training, realistic drills, and education with encouraging feedback.

CPR/AED: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Automated External Defibrillators

CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive. Students learn adult, child, and infant CPR, AED, and how to relieve foreign body airway obstructions.

Who Should Take This Course?  This class is designed for individuals with limited or no medical training who need a CPR/AED certification card for personal reasons or work purposes to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

Course Content

    • Adult CPR and AED use
    • Child CPR and AED use
    • Adult and child-obstructed airway
    • Infant CPR and obstructed airway

Course Format During the course, the Instructor conducts video-based lessons and works with students to complete their CPR and AED skills practice.

Students receive a CPR- AED Certification Card, valid for two years. Cards will be processed via email.

CAM: Certified Apartment Manager (6-Day Training)

Earning your Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) credential allows you to demonstrate that you have the knowledge and ability to manage rental property and achieve the owner’s investment goals. CALP: Certified Apartment Leasing Professional.

CAPS: Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor. (4 Day Training)

CAPS teaches professionalism, teamwork, organization, time management, and technology, all with the goal of developing the skills needed to manage portfolios of apartment buildings or large apartment communities successfully. Recommended for multi-site or large apartment community managers and assistant managers with at least 24 months of experience, this course will prepare you to become a stronger portfolio supervisor and enhance your value!

During this 4-day course, you’ll strengthen your knowledge in the following areas:

FAIR HOUSING: California Fair Housing Training (English & Spanish)

ENGLISH: Our Fair Housing Certification Training course informs and educates property owners and managers about current fair housing laws and practices. The Fair Housing certification course offers an overview of fair housing laws and what you need to know to stay in compliance with fair housing regulations.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Federal, State, and Local Fair Housing Laws

  • Sexual Harassment in Housing

  • General “Do’s and Don’ts”

  • Reasonable Accommodations and Modifications

This Fair Housing certification course will benefit property owners, managers, and real estate professionals practicing in all areas.  The seminar includes self-evaluated tests, discussions of fair housing scenarios, a question and answer session, and a certificate of completion.

ENGLISH: The Property Management Training Program (PMTP) aims to help property owners improve the management of their properties.

The PMTP will cover the following topics:

  • Lead Hazard Remediation

  • How to avoid Illegal nuisances

  • Fair Housing

  • Landlord/Tenant Law

This one-day course will be held virtually and is presented by The Los Angeles Housing and Community Investment Department in conjunction with AAGLA.

SPANISH: El propósito del Programa de capacitación en administración de propiedades (PMTP) es ayudar a los propietarios a mejorar la administración de sus propiedades.

El PMTP cubrirá los siguientes temas:

    • Cumplimiento del código de propiedad
      Ordenanza de estabilización de alquileres
      Remediación del peligro de plomo
      Cómo evitar molestias ilegales
      Vivienda Justa
