Santa Monica Awarded FEMA Funds for Seismic Retrofit Grant Program

The City of Santa Monica has been awarded a federal grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist owners of qualifying multi-family residential soft-story buildings. The Federal Emergency Management Agency coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.

Grant funding will be used to reimburse property owners with a portion of design and construction costs associated with qualifying soft story retrofitting work. All Priority II and III buildings, as defined in the Ordinance, are potentially eligible for grant funding. Only those projects that receive approval from FEMA prior to building permit issuance will be eligible to receive reimbursement for retrofit costs through the grant program.
