San Bernardino County Establishes a Rent Relief Program – Application Period will Open on April 12,

Industry News,

In March, the State’s COVID-19 Emergency Rent Relief program, pursuant to Senate Bill 91 (SB 91) was established, enabling rental housing providers to receive 80% of an eligible renter’s total unpaid rent owed from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021 from the Program if housing providers are willing to agree to waive the remaining 20% owed during that period.

Under SB 91, localities were provided with three options for accessing and administering funds under the State’s rental relief program. The County of San Bernardino has opted for the dual program option in which the locality runs a local program in combination with the State administered program. As both the County and State programs will be available to County residents, each program will focus on different household income levels.

Under the County’s program rental housing providers can receive 100% of an eligible renters unpaid rent owed for the period of April 1, 2020 through March 31, 2021, where the household income is 50% AMI and below. The State will run a concurrent program for eligible renters where the household income is 50.1% AMI and above. As noted above, the state’s program enables rental housing providers to receive 80% of an eligible renter’s total unpaid rent owed from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, if the housing provider agrees to waive the remaining 20% owed during that period.

  • Application Period: The application period begins April 12, 2021
  • How to Apply: At this time you can go to the County’s webpage www.inlandsocaluw.org/sbcrent to be placed on the interested list. Upon the program launch on April 12th, rental housing providers can apply on behalf of their renters on the same webpage.

The Association will provide additional information as it becomes available.
