Major Local Billboard Campaign Launched in Opposition to Proposition 21
The Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles’ Billboards Urge “Vote No Prop. 21”
Only two years following the successful defeat of 2018’s Proposition 10, the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles (AAGLA) has once again launched a major opposition campaign to defeat Prop. 10’s evil twin and arch-enemy of California’s rental housing providers, Proposition 21 – the so-called “Rental Affordability Act.” In our efforts to defeat the ill-conceived ballot initiative, thousands of “Vote No Prop. 21” lawn signs and numerous billboards were placed by AAGLA throughout the greater Los Angeles area, and hundreds of thousands of dollars received through major fundraising efforts were contributed to the statewide opposition campaign.
The Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles (AAGLA) strongly OPPOSES PROP. 21, as this RENT CONTROL ballot initiative will drastically expand California’s rent control laws by repealing the protections we now have under Costa-Hawkins. This new ballot initiative is an extremely dangerous threat to all landlords!
If passed this November:
- Your right to increase rent to market upon a tenant’s vacancy will be severely limited – vacancy de-control will no longer exist!
- Rent control will be expanded to single-family homes and condominiums when more than 2 are owned OR if title is held by a trust, LLC or any other entity that is not a natural person.
- Local rent control will be expanded to all properties built within the last 15 years.
- Will result in the loss of local revenues leaving less funding for our schools, police, and fire departments.
- Will REDUCE the value of your rental property and your rental income.
