First-Time Home Buying Assistance Offered Through CalHFA

The California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA) has announced that starting on February 24, 2026, the application portal for the Dream for All Shared Appreciation Loan Program will open through March 16, 2026. This program is intended to help first generation homebuyers by helping with a substantial down payment and/or closing cost assistance.

This program assists first time homebuyers with up to 20% of the amount of a down payment or closing costs but not exceeding over $150,000. To obtain these funds, applicants must register for a voucher called the DFA voucher to be entered into a randomized drawing for available funds.


Eligibility

To be eligible, at least one borrower must be first-generation, a California resident, and all borrowers must be first-time homebuyers. Applicants must check that their household income meets CalHFA Dream for All Income Limits for the county of purchase. For the three counties covered by the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles, the following are the CalHFA Dream for All Income Limits:

  • $168,000 for Los Angeles County
  • $207,000 for Ventura County
  • $164,000 for San Bernardino County
