Renovation, Repair, and Paint the Right Way: Lead Safety for L.A. County Property Owners

Impact Assessment is offering free lead awareness presentations for property owners, managers, and homeowners in Los Angeles County. This one-hour educational session aims to raise awareness about lead poisoning and how lead hazards can arise during home repair, renovation, or painting projects. Attendees will learn about federal and state regulations concerning homes built before 1978 as well as best practices for working on homes that have lead-based paint. By the end of the presentation, attendees will understand how to identify unsafe work practices, prevent project shutdowns and fines, and keep children safe from lead hazards before, during, and after home repair or renovations.

"Renovate, Repair, and Paint Right: Lead Safety for Los Angeles County Property Owners" is a must-attend presentation designed to help property owners navigate critical lead safety regulations when renovating homes built before 1978. Learn how to protect your property, avoid costly fines, and prevent project delays by understanding lead hazards and ensuring lead-safe work practices are implemented.

  • Whether you're a homeowner, landlord, or property manager, this session will equip you with practical knowledge to ensure compliance and keep your renovations on track—safely and efficiently.
  • The information used in this presentation have been developed with assistance from subject matter experts, including Hermes Parra, CAC (Principal/Instructor, Parra Environmental Training) and Mike Sharp (Senior Safety Officer, Janus Corporation), has been approved by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Environmental Health Division, and was piloted in collaboration with the Los Angeles Housing Department.

The goal of this presentation is to reduce unsafe work practices and prevent lead poisoning in vulnerable children before it occurs.

The "Renovate, Repair, and Paint Right: Lead Safety for Property Owners in Los Angeles County" project offers training as part of the Prevent Lead Poisoning LA (PLPLA) project, a collaboration between Impact Assessment and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The project is funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The primary goal of PLPLA is to prevent lead poisoning in children within Los Angeles County.
