AVERT: Active Violence Emergency Response Training
Active Violence Emergency Response Training (AVERT)
The FBI defines an active shooter as one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area. According to the FBI, in 2022, 50 shootings were designated as active shooter incidents. The news today is filled with stories of workplace violence, smash-and-grab break-ins, and other violent situations. Learn how you can protect yourself and avoid becoming a victim of violent crime. Don't let yourself or your business become a statistic.
The Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles recognizes the importance of workplace and personal safety. Living in an urban environment puts us at constant risk of violent crime, so it is critical to know how to react in such situations. That’s why AAGLA has partnered with the Health and Safety Institute to bring you the AVERT certification course—Active Violence Emergency Response Training. AVERT teaches participants to recognize signs of danger, respond appropriately, and make rapid survival decisions. It also includes instruction on controlling life-threatening bleeding, giving you the tools to be an immediate responder before EMS arrives.
What You'll Learn:
- Recognize warning signs using situational awareness
- Decide whether to Escape, Evade, or Attack
- Apply critical bleeding control techniques
- Respond quickly and confidently in an emergency
- Develop an Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
Instructors are AVERT Certified and come from backgrounds in law enforcement, EMS, and public safety.
